One veggie with many faces.

For those who are growing cruciferous vegetables it in their gardens, our recent cold weather has been working its magic on enhancing the flavor of these nutritious cool season veggies. You don’t have to be a gardener to be familiar with cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, greens, kale and kohlrabi, which abound at the corner grocery. What many are not familiar with though, is that they are all the same species which has been selectively bred to enhance different parts of the plant – much how a chihuahua and a St. Bernard are the same species, but look so different. Brassica oleracea is the plant that keeps on giving. The story of how this plant was cultivated into so many vegetables is interesting and you can read about it at vox.com.
