Rose Virus Now In FL

Rose Rosette Virus has been confirmed in Florida. This virus causes clusters of long, excessively thorny stems, with discolored, malformed leaves and buds. It also reduces cold tolerance, making the roses vulnerable to freezes. In Florida it has shown up in the popular Knock Out Roses, previously marketed for their improved disease resistance and low maintenance needs. It is spread through grafting of infected plant material, and by a mites that are too small to even been seen by the naked eye. There is not much that can been done to prevent the infection, other than being vigilant and removing any plant material you suspect to be affected, before it spreads.
